Joyousbrush Club 2015 Spring registration

Kincaid Elementary After School Club 2015 Spring

Joyousbrush Painting by Tehwan Tso

We paint for joy, for self discovery, for creativity and for resonance with others. We explore nature and delight in its wonder.  Joyousbrush Club aims to capture such wonder on paper. This set of painting techniques helps us to stroke more deliberately, to practice more purposefully, to try more courageously, to paint more confidently, to reflect more honestly, to create more enthusiastically, to express more freely and to share more joyfully.

The Joyous Brush Club incorporates the classic oriental brush stroke techniques retained through the ages and the contemporary exploration of water color effect on rice paper.

This class is open to all students from 2nd to 5th grades.  We will be painting beauty and wonders of nature. The class tuition is $180 for 12 90-minutes lessons and $30 for class supplies; this will include all material used in class including art bags and portfolio.   Optional $20 will allow the students to take home the brushes they use in class (2 small, 2 large), color mixing plate, brush rest, a set of primary colors & white and 10 sheets of rice paper.

Tehwan Tso demonstrates Chinese brush painting in Cobb County schools through Artist in School program.  She offers workshops to Georgia schools through Woodruff Arts Arts for Learning program. She was the receiver of 2010 Cobb County Ovation Award in visual art and served as grant application panelists for National Endowment for the Arts in 2012. She taught at many art centers and schools including The Callaway Garden, The Art Place, The Art Station, Chastain Art Center, Compass Prep. ..etc for over 20 years.

Lesson 9 Sun flowers

The same leaves can be applied to Sun Flower.  So we take the liberty to paint them in order to obtain more practice for brush stroke sake.

Lesson 8 Hydrangea continued

The students worked hard on their hydrangea paintings since there are many strokes.  Here is a glimpse of our gallery at school, if you have not yet visited, please make time for a short visit.

Lesson 7 Hydrangea in color

This painting is done in color still aiming at leave practice.  The flowers from buds to full broom are demonstrated afterwards to demonstrate how they may grow in relation to the leaves.

Lesson 6 Hydrangea leaves

Hydrangea leaves stroke practice in black and white.
Since the leave structure is so basic in many floral paintings, I take the time to orient the students in obtaining a degree of command of comfort level to always not shy away from leaves and their cluster.
