Lesson 9 Sun flowers

The same leaves can be applied to Sun Flower.  So we take the liberty to paint them in order to obtain more practice for brush stroke sake.

Lesson 8 Hydrangea continued

The students worked hard on their hydrangea paintings since there are many strokes.  Here is a glimpse of our gallery at school, if you have not yet visited, please make time for a short visit.

Lesson 7 Hydrangea in color

This painting is done in color still aiming at leave practice.  The flowers from buds to full broom are demonstrated afterwards to demonstrate how they may grow in relation to the leaves.

Lesson 6 Hydrangea leaves

Hydrangea leaves stroke practice in black and white.
Since the leave structure is so basic in many floral paintings, I take the time to orient the students in obtaining a degree of command of comfort level to always not shy away from leaves and their cluster.

Lesson 5 Peach blossom

We applied the same techniques of painting the Cherokee roses to peach blossom.  The flowers are smaller and they grow out of the branches.

lesson 4 pink Cherokee roses

We finished our yellow roses and started our pink roses.  The flowers are oriented in various directions.  The students are challenged to turn their flowers in their design.  We will complete the painting next week.

lesson 3 cherokee Roses in color

We have been studying the various stroke techniques of the elements in a rose painting.  The leaves with vain, the flower, the buds, stem and thorns.  Now we have to put them together logically.  You have to convince people you have studied roses in its natural form.  So do study them whenever you have the opportunity.  This is the lifelong habit artist acquire and delight in.   Then render a second appearance with your brush. This iteration completes the learning cycle.

lesson 2 Leaves and buds in color

To put leaves and stem together, you first have to know how to grow the stem in your mind.  Some leaves have to be placed in the front of the stem, and they have to be arranged in such a way that they will all be able to connect together in a logical and beautiful way.  Below is a student sample of how to grow leaves logically on the stem.

lesson 1 stroke study

This is our first lesson for the floral studies.  I introduced the brush stroke technique to paint leaves, flower buds, stem and thorns.  These are the strokes we are going to use to paint roses.   Next week we will use color to talk about composition of the leaves, leave cluster, stem and how to connect them.
